3 bags of trash and we didn’t get to our east sign marker. Thank you volunteers for keeping our piece of highway clean and rideable.

Saturday Sept. 19th is California Cleanup day. The Tall Bike Posse will do a sweep of the sweetest piece of highway anyone could ever want to adopt.
All you road riders pay attention: When your Peloton passes through Santa Margarita, pay homage to the Adopt-a-Highway sign at the west side of town, then on your return trip out hwy 58, again pay homage at the AAH sign on the eastern border of town.
We meet at 9am at the park and ride for safety brief. I provide all the necessary items.
Get involved with your community!

This is how I roll...
This Saturday I’m scheduling a Roadside Cleanup event. Let’s meet at the Santa Margarita Park and Ride at 8:30 for a safety meeting and crew organizing. I will provide all the necessary roadside cleanup items. Bring your bike.
TIP #1 If you have a trailer, it works well as a trash tote.
TIP #2 Hang a bucket on the handlebars for recyclables.
We own the best piece of highway one can ever wish to adopt. Fill yourself with community pride and help clean this one horse town.
Total number of trash bags filled: One
Most common roadside trash item: Plastic bags
Most popular alcoholic beverage container: Bud Lite
Most popular soda container: Big Gulp
Most unusual item picked up: A flattened ground squirrel (and I mean flat).
Here is our little piece of highway
Here are pictures on the route.
Tall Bike Posse entered the SLO Criterium Little 500 halftime show and competed against 6 other teams of four. The Posse wore *Adopt-a-Highway safety gear for best visuals and practiced safety third. The race course was ours and we had a superb team made up of Deputy Steve, BrOken BOner, Baby Snakes and myself.
Our handoffs were exemplary, our style outstanding, our speed next to last. I managed to tag all other teams with Tall Bike stickers, and cut the course. Needless to say the shortcut was to no avail.
Still when it came to voting the best team with Style and Spirit, we came in first place! A lunch for four at Corner View Restaurant.
*Adopt-a-Highway is a program brought to you by CalTrans. Here is a map of our beautiful stretch. Thank you Shaba for another amazing event.
Here’s a good group portrait of the Kleenas. Thanks again for the effort.
Tall Bike Posse rustled up 6 bags of trash in two hours from our highway section. Most unusual trash found: a Christmas portrait photo of mullet children, 8 ft. length of chain, and a spice girls picture. Thank You Posse members: Yarro Nelson, Kenny McCarthy, Bo “sexual favors” Shmo and Dan “YD” Kallal.
You demonstrate the “Get ‘er Done” attitude. Who says public service is boring?
Tall Bike Posse is participating in California Cleanup Day Saturday September 20th.
If you don’t know already, our stretch of highway runs right through the beautiful hamlet of Santa Margarita. We will meet at the Park and Ride at the west end of town at 9:00am. Here’s the map.
Here’s some pictures.
Tony Hawk and Sunny Garcia are on board: DON’T TRASH CALIFORNIA
Tall bike posse set out to clean up their part of the highway this morning. We bagged four bags of trash on the east side of town. The CalTrans Adopt-A-Highway program, which began in 1989, has been one of the truly successful government-public partnerships of our time. If Tall Bike Posse can do it so can you! ‘Tis the season of giving and the Central Coast chapter is going to give some bikes to families who can’t afford new ones for their children. Deputy Tom and I went through the stable and picked out three fine mountain bikes suitable for school children. The program was set up by Tom last year through the grade school which he teaches at. His school will pick the students through his recommendation, buy a new helmet and lock, we will tune-up and deliver the bike to the child’s parent. All we require in return is that the parent log on to tallbikeposse.com and write a “thank you” to the posse.
Yes, it’s obvious we promote alternative, alternative transportation (tallbikes), but we can also support just alternative transportation (a standard bike).
