Everything old is new again. Modern Mechanix was the staple through an era past. Now The DIY culture has Make magazine, backyard chicken and gardening. The revolution is proving to be empowering to anyone willing to research, learn and think for themselves. Sometimes I wonder if that is possible with the general media and information packaged as being the expert. Then I get reassured when I see businesses models such as iFixit, band promo and discussion sites, and of course Bicycle Kitchens and all the real How-to’s out there.

Live a conscious life and follow the chain. Assure that what you DO purchase has small impact on our planet.

Time to deconstruct, drill, drink, and grind bike bones, create art from the junk-pile bike heap. We’ll haul the bike bones down to Central Coast Brewery this Sunday from noon ’til whenever for an All-Out Bike Build. THIS IS NOT A SPECTATOR SPORT! Get busy and create Art from Bike scrap. The Tall Bike Posse will bring demo bikes and make a corral in the Central Coast Brew parking lot just for the aesthetic rumpus and no holds barred Bike Art Build! Our welding hombre will be on hand to make YOUR idea a reality. Come with inspiration and a thirst for beer.

Adopt-A-Highway roadside cleanup for March was just me and my trusty Raleigh Superbe. We covered the 2.5 mile stretch of Hwy 58 where we have a 5-year permit to maintain. It’s the most beautiful piece of highway anyone would ever want to clean!

There were plenty of cyclists heading out for the Hwy 58 loop and I made sure they knew who was keeping this highway clean for their use.

All are welcome to join me on the second Saturday (sometimes Sunday) of every month. Gather at the Park and Ride by the Santa Margarita Hwy 101 exit for a safety brief - 9am sharp.

BIKExperience” - a circuitous journey back to your bike
This is a celebration of art and bicycles, the gallery will be free to the public and there is no competition among the artists. We only ask that you create art with a bicycle in mind. If you cruise our gallery from last year, you’ll see the variety of art displayed. We had a few showcase pieces that really anchored the rest of the gallery.  The Gallery wil be open through the month of May during National Bike Month.
We are aiming to have all the art in our hands, ready to hang by April 26th or sooner. We ask that it be “ready to hang” meaning that all the hardware is attached, a name, contact, and your price on the back. We will add 25% to your price as a tax-deductible donation to the SLO County Bicycle Coalition.

The Central Coast chapter has been in existence for three years. What have we done? Drank beer yes, but there’s more to us than that. We demonstrate our ability to “Get ‘Er Done”, “Posse-Up” and “Ride High with That Guy” check out our presentation given at the Central Coast Brewery on Thursday January 31st 2008. Thank you Jim and George for opening up Central Coast Brewery for our first Town Hall Meeting of ‘08.

This Thursday January 31st at 7:30 pm the Tall Bike Posse will host a town hall meeting at Central Coast Brewery. There will be a short presentation by Sheriff Bill, Deputy YD, and Deputy Tom on the accomplishments and philanthropy we have stumbled through since our central coast chapter formed three years ago. We can all swim in the memories of past parades, bike build beer brewing, art shows, fun rides, concert security, Christmas bike giveaways, road clean-up, and the smiles we put on peoples faces when the posse pedals by.

After the presentation, the taps will flow to their full capacity (the return of the pitcher!) as we taste some of the central coast’s finest brew. Foosball, beer checkers, uke show, and demo bikes are only half of the fun.
Feel free to invite those who can appreciate quality conversation, fine beer, and the ability to posse up in a moments notice. Come raise your pint and celebrate three years and (how many?) tall bikes later.

After last year’s successful BikeSHIFT art show (which sold $5000 worth of art and raised $1000 for the SLO County Bicycle Coalition), The Tall Bike Posse is back in the saddle sponsoring another bicycle related art exhibit called: BIKExperience - A circuitous journey back to your bike. The chosen art will be exhibited during San Luis Obispo County’s Bike Month in May. All art media is welcome. Well this was our first weekend of road cleanup along highway 58 which pretty much runs through downtown Santa Margarita. Deputy Tom, Kenny and I did the first cleanup campaign in which we volunteered our time with CalTrans Adopt a Highway program. I think it’s a great program and is a real good way to see what a throw away society we are. I’m picking gloves out for an art project I have in mind. More about that later…

We will be doing this once a month. Please consider doing an adoption soon.

Pencil in the date- Tall Bike Posse will build tall bikes, drink beer and make sparks and other whimsical vehicles in the the parking lot of Central Coast Brewery. We will be prepping our steeds for San Luis Obispo’s Holiday Parade Holly Jolly Holiday which will be in Downtown SLO December 7th. Now is the time to make yours!
